MORE ABOUT THE LEYLAND OLYMPIAN......

Designed and originally built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles, the Olympian was produced as a replacement for the ageing Atlantean, Fleetline and VR range of double-deck chassis.

The Olympian was the final bus chassis to be produced by Bristol Commercial Vehicles.  When the Bristol factory closed in 1983 Olympian production switched to Leyland's Workington plant in Cumbria.  With the exception of a short period in build at the Farington plant, production remained in Cumbria until 1993.

In 1988 Leyland Bus was purchased by the Swedish giant Volvo.   By 1993 Olympian production had moved to the Volvo factory in Irvine, Scotland.  It was here the chassis was treated to extensive modernisation and subsequently became known as the Volvo Olympian.

Leyland Olympian coaches are rare.  Eastern Coach Works produced a small number of coach versions, mostly on 11 metre chassis, from 1982.   Most of these vehicles were originally built as commuter coaches for National Bus Company subsidiaries in the London area.

The Leyland Olympian Coach used by Woottens was new to London Country as B107 LPH.  Allocated fleet number LRC7, this vehicle was one of five Leyland Olympian coaches purchased by London Country in 1985 to operate the 757 London - Luton Flightline service.  A further five examples joined the London Country fleet in June 1986 as LRC 11 -15 (C211-5 UPD).
