Loughborough based Willowbrook was a casualty of the early 1980s recession but returned on a much smaller scale in 1985 with a new product range. The Warrior was launched in 1987 and established a niche for itself, particularly as a low cost new bus body for reconditioned coach chassis. The Warrior is a basic, functional body, not especially pretty and owing a great deal of style to the Leyland Lynx and Duple Dominant Bus range. With a total of seven in service by the end of 1991, City of Oxford Motor Services (Oxford Bus) were the largest user of the type. A new generation of coaches for the busy London service had left Oxford Bus with a ready supply of old Leyland Leopard coaches. It was a small selection of these redundant vehicles which received new Willowbrook bodies. The Oxford Warriors became regular performers on the busy Park & Ride services before being withdrawn in late 1995. Oxford Bus retained VUD 33X for use as a driver training bus and later re-registered the vehicle ABW 310X. ABW 310X joined Woottens in 2002 for use on contract services in Buckinghamshire.
